The case of Sion Philip. Cardigan folklore has him hanged after the 1763 April Great Session on a trumped up charge of stealing a ram of Sir Herbert Lloyd of Peterwell. I can find no trace of him in either the Order Books or the Gaol Delivery Files. Bethan Phillips also has found no definite proof of his existence. Her researched account appears in her book "Peterwell. The History of a Mansion and its Infamous Squire" published by Gomer Press 1983 (ISBN 0 86383 026 9).
