Saturday, 26 May 1739 Carmarthen town execution.
Elinor Hadley, single woman, on 2 March 1739 in the parish of St Peter in the town and county of Carmarthen gave birth to a male child which she assaulted violently so that the child instantly died (WALES 4/736/5). The inquest on the child's body stated that there were marks of violence on the right side of the head. Noted: Executed Saturday. 26th May (Town).
In C&iN she is called Elinor Williams (alias Hadley),the execution dated to 23 May and said to have been gibbeted at a spot near the town railway station. It is reported that "two lads were executed at that time for stealing cider - this must refer to David Rees and Evan Lloyd who were ordered for execution on 4 August but reprieved. Also reports hanging at Pensarn of ...Edwards of Llandefeilog for pilfering (of whom I can find no record).
