John Johnston (otherwise Robinson) and John Mitchell (otherwise Mitchinson) guilty of a burglary in the dwelling house of Jane Carruthers, widow, in the parish of Lanercost (otherwise Abbey Lanercost) on 16th August 1787: stealing therefrom a dark coloured chintz gown (valued at 5/-), a light coloured chintz gown (valued at 5/-), a striped calico gown (valued at 5/-), a printed cotton gown (valued at 5/-), a printed linen gown (valued at 5/-) and a white corded Dimity petticoat (valued at 5/-).
According to the registers for St Mary’s, Carlisle: Johnston (alias Robinson) and Mitchell (alias (Mitchinson) were buried on 17 August.
