William Branny guilty of privately stealing (picking the pocket) of Hugh McGuiner of 43 gold guineas and 13 gold half guineas near Calder Bridge on 9th June 1786. In the Assizes book the theft is stated as taking place in the parish of St Bridgets (Beckermet).
According to the registers for St Mary’s, Carlisle on 21 November “William Branney was buried having been executed for a robbery at Dovenby.”
