George Riley murdered Adeline Mary Smith 62 at 47 Westland Road, Shrewsbury on 8 October 1960.
He had been out with friends drinking and was dropped off at his home at 1.30am and had gone to sleep on a sofa in the garage so as not to wake anyone. However he later woke and realised that he had spent too much money and so decided to go and rob Adeline Smith who lived a couple of houses away. However she woke up and so he hit her which killed her.
