Edward Coarse

Saturday, 11 August 1792 (Cambridge Chronicle - to be executed today Sat 11 August) Edward Coarse guilty of the rape of Sarah Ellis the younger in the parish of Barrington on 6th June 1792. In her deposition she said “She is the daughter of Joseph Ellis, farmer of Triplow. On Wednesday 6 June between Barrington and Little Eversden between 3 and 4 in the afternoon Edward Coarse assaulted her and threw her to the ground: when she cried out he struck her violently on the head. He had his trousers down. She struggled, but failing, he entered her and had carnal knowledge of her. She is in her 15th year.”
