Margaret wife of William Williams (otherwise Margaret Morris)on Friday 8 July 1774 in the parish of Llanrug struck beat and kicked William Williams (aged 6) and threw him into the water so that he died (WALES 4/275/2). In the Quarter Sessions records (Michaelmas 1774) various payments were made : for the Coroner's report on William Williams murdered on Friday 8 August (sic) by Margaret Morris his mother-in-law (step-mother); to a deputy constable for 13 days travel to catch Margaret Morris and bring her back; and to the gaoler who dieted her for 5 weeks after sentence. At the Trinity Quarter Session 1775 there is a further petition (28.4.75) from "Thomas Pritchard, late keeper of the gaol for considerable expense in maintaining Margaret Morris, the late prisoner at the said gaol for the space of 14 weeks and extraordinary expenses in providing fire, candles and divers other necessaries during her illness in lying-in." This would mean she was in gaol probably until early January 1775.
C&DH reports "Margaret Morris, for killing a boy in 1774."
